I found the words ‘Elvis is my art teacher’ inscribed onto an art room desk. Upon further research I found out that there was a former art teacher who also worked as an Elvis Presley impersonator. I was enraptured by the image of a schoolchild thinking that their art teacher was Elvis and I wanted to tell this story through the eyes of the child. I made this brooch as though the pupil had constructed the figure of their art teacher using everyday materials found in an art room creating a naive and playful aesthetic.
