​This piece was inspired by a selection of blankets and sheets from a boarding school where I worked as a member of staff. I was intrigued by the repaired patches, darns, hand sewn labels and embroidered dates that showed evidence of human life over 60 years ago. The brooch emphasises the quality of cotton fabric and the stitching of the patch. I have used text from a poem by Charles Kohler detailing his childhood experiences of sleeping in the school.
