Dress Making Brooch

Picture
‘Whenever a repair was no longer possible, the girls would make a new article’. Whilst researching Friends’ School history I was drawn to the difference between the girls and boys education in the eighteenth century. This brooch was made to commemorate these girls who were not given the same educational opportunities as the their male counterparts. They were expected to take on domestic duties instead of studying academic subjects.
